Purpose and eligibility

Zafin offers a yearly total of eight (8) scholarships (designated as “Scholarships”) to students enrolled in accredited universities or colleges pursuing Masters & Bachelors programs in STEM fields. Each scholarship carries a monetary award of USD $5,000 per recipient, internship opportunities may be offered to those who exhibit exceptional skills and knowledge.
These eight scholarships are divided into two categories: four (4) scholarships will be granted to individuals chosen as winners of the Engineering Cohort, and the remaining four (4) will be awarded to students in the Women in STEM Cohort. Individual applicants are restricted to apply for only one of the scholarships.
Eligibility Criteria for Engineering Scholarship
To be eligible for one (1) of the four (4) Scholarships all applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a citizen or permanent resident of, or possess a valid student visa or applicable permit for The United States of America (U.S.A.), or Canada, or India
- Candidate must be 18 years of age or older at the time of application.
- Preference given to candidates with demonstrated financial need or from underrepresented communities. Applicants, if selected, will be required to submit supporting documents to indicate their financial status.
- Must be enrolled in an accredited university or college and should be pursuing a Master’s or Bachelors program in Engineering.
- Qualifying Engineering majors include Computer engineering, Computer science, Data science, Electrical & Computer engineering, Software engineering, Software development.
- Demonstrate excellence in their choice of Engineering course and maintain strong academic performance.
- Applicant must be in good standing with their college or university, maintaining a minimum GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or its equivalent at the time of application.
- Demonstrate a commitment to community service, volunteer work or leadership in their community, university, college, or extracurricular activities.
Eligibility Criteria for Women in STEM Scholarship:
To be eligible for one (1) of the four (4) Scholarships all candidates must be:
- Must be a citizen or permanent resident, or possess a valid student visa or applicable permit, in the relevant country or region across Americas, Asia Pacific, EMEA, or India.
- Candidate must be 18 years of age or older at the time of application.
- Eligibility is limited to female candidates.
- Must be enrolled in an accredited university or college and pursuing a Masters or Bachelors program in STEM.
- Qualifying STEM majors include Artificial Intelligence, automation, biometry/biometrics, computer engineering, computer forensics science, computer programming, computer science, computer systems, cybersecurity, chemical engineering, data analytics, electrical engineering, electronics engineering, geospatial science, industrial engineering, information science, information technology, information resource management, quantum computing, mathematics, machine learning, mechanical engineering, network engineering, network security, operations research, physics, robotics engineering, robotics technology, statistics, strategic intelligence and telecommunications engineering
- Demonstrate excellence in their choice of STEM course and maintain strong academic performance.
- Applicants must be in good standing with the college or university maintaining a minimum GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or its equivalent at the time of application.
- Demonstrate a commitment to community service, volunteer work or leadership in their community, university, college, or extracurricular activities.
- Preference will be given to those candidates who exhibit a strong dedication to promoting a culture of Diversity & Inclusion through their activities, leadership, and passion for their chosen STEM program.
Application Requirements
Submit the following:
- The online application form.
- A resume/CV that emphasizes relevant experience, extracurricular activities, and community engagement.
- A personal essay (maximum 500 words) delineating the candidate’s academic and career aspirations, their dedication to their chosen field, and the positive influence they aim to exert on their community.
- A video resume (optional).
- Official transcripts from all post-secondary educational institutions previously attended.
- At least one letter of recommendation from professors, employers, or community leaders.
- Proof of enrolment or acceptance into a qualifying program.
If the candidate is selected for the scholarship, the applicant will be required to provide:
- Proof of citizenship or visa, as applicable
- Documentation of underrepresented or minority status, if applicable (Engineering Cohort).
- Documentation that supports the need for financial assistance, if applicable, which may require disclosure of the applicant’s and their family’s financial details (Engineering Cohort).
Financial award disbursement is subject to proof of eligibility requirements as described above. Failure to provide the required documentation within the specified period may result in scholarship disqualification and forfeiture.
Scholarship terms
- Disbursement of Scholarship Funds: Following proof of eligibility (as described above) Zafin will allocate the complete scholarship sum of USD $5,000 to each recipient through two disbursement cycles. The winners will receive 75% of the total scholarship amount at the commencement of the scholarship period. The remaining 25% will be disbursed upon the successful completion of the subsequent semester with a minimum grade of 75% or equivalent.
- Zafin reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to modify, amend (including extending the Scholarship application deadline) or cancel this Scholarship program at any time without individual notice.
- By submitting your application, you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions and Zafin | Candidate Privacy Notice. The records of Zafin and the decisions of the Zafin’s Scholarship selection panel, whose records and decisions shall be deemed final, conclusive, and binding in all matters.
- You certify that all the information provided on the application form and in all the accompanying documents is true, accurate, and complete to the best of your knowledge. You understand that the provision of false information will invalidate the application.
Key dates and deadlines
Completed applications must be submitted between October 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024. All submissions must be made online.
How to apply
Your application must be submitted in English only.
Zafin’s panel of reviewers will evaluate all applicant profiles. Applicants who are shortlisted for further rounds will be invited to participate in regional level interviews. Shortlisted applicants from the regional level interviews will be called to participate in final round of interviews at the global level, after which, the winners will be determined.
Single Application
Each applicant is permitted to submit only one application for the scholarship. Multiple submissions or attempts to duplicate applications will result in disqualification.
Travel and Accommodation
If the candidate qualifies for the internship, Zafin shall not assume any responsibility for travel or accommodation expenses incurred by the scholarship winner. The scholarship recipient is solely responsible for all costs associated with traveling to and staying at Zafin’s office location.
